A pioneer in the wireless communications industry, Martin conceived the first
portable cellular phone in 1973 and led the 10-year process of bringing it to market.
During 29 years with Motorola, Martin built and managed both its paging and
cellular businesses and served as Corporate Director of Research and Development.
Products he introduced have had cumulative sales volume of more than $80 billion.
Upon leaving Motorola, Martin co-founded Cellular Business Systems, Inc. and led it to dominate the cellular billing industry with a 75 percent market share before selling
it to Cincinnati Bell. He has been granted eight patents in the communications field
and has been widely published.
Under Martin's leadership since its founding in 1992, ArrayComm has grown from a
seed-funded startup in San Jose, Calif., into the world leader in smart antenna
technology with 400 patents issued or pending worldwide.
Martin received the American Computer Museum's George R. Stibitz Computer and Communications Pioneer Award in 2002, he was an inaugural member of RCR's Wireless Hall of Fame, Red Herring magazine named him one of the Top 10 Entrepreneurs of 2000, and Wireless Systems Design provided him with the 2002 Industry Leader award. He holds a B.S. and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology.

Dr. JOAO SCHWARZ DASILVA was born in 1944 in Portugal. He received a PhD on the Performance Analysis of Mobile Packet Radio Systems from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada in 1981 and a Master and Bachelors degree on Electrical Engineering from the Ecole Polytechnique, Montreal, Canada in 1971 and 1970. He started his career at the Ministry of Communications of Canada where he occupied several engineering positions in various domains including, spectrum management, educational delivery networks, packet radio, satellite telecommunications and computer communications network design. He was instrumental in the design of CANUNET the first Canadian University Computer Netwok. While in Canada he was appointed on a regular basis as assistant Professor at Carleton University, where he taught courses on Stochastic Processes, Distributed Database Management Systems and Computer Communications. He was invited by the ITU as a senior field expert responsible for the planning of AM and FM broadcast networks in Guinea-Bissau and was seconded to Saudi Arabia for the setting up of the computerised spectrum management system for the Kingdom. He left Canada in 1982 to join the International Telecommunications Union in Geneva where he was appointed as the Head of a multinational team in charge of the development of the HF world-wide planning system. While in the ITU, he was also responsible for the development of computerized spectrum management systems for developing countries and participated actively in various CCIR Study Groups, notably SG 1, 6 and 8 and Regional and World Administrative Radio Conferences. He joined the European Commission in 1991 where took on several positions, including that of Head of Unit responsible for Mobile and Wireless Communications, Mobile and Broadband Communications and Networked Audio-Visual Systems and Applications. In the period up to 1998 he was instrumental in the EU efforts towards the design and development of UMTS (3G networks) having managed a key set of R&D projects, that led to the landmark decisions of ETSI in 1998. He further on launched the UMTS Task Force that later became the UMTS Forum and was the intiator of a series of annual Conferences on Mobile and Wireless Communications now in their 14 th year of operation. He was also the prime mover and instigator of the IPv6 European Task Force that now guides the work of a number of national IPv6 Task Forces. He is currently Director of the Network and Communication in Directorate of DGINFSO where he oversees all the R&D work relating to mobile communications, broadband networks including satellite communications, audio-visual and home networks; trust and security, software engineering and ICT for business applications. The area of work of the Dirctorate covers a wide-ranging set of issues, such as digital divide issues, IPv6, Next Generation Networks, optical infrastructures, fourth generation wireless systems and networks, network convergence, interoperability, digital rights management, biometrics, network resilience, open source developments, digital business eco-systems and RF tags. He is the recipient of the first UMTS award by the UMTS Forum. He is the author of some 50 technical ande scientific papers and books and has been invited as guest editor of IEEE Communications and Personal Communications Magazine.

Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala is Professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, India and was department Chair till recently. He received his B.Tech degree from IIT, Kanpur, and his MS and Ph.D degrees from the University of Maine. From 1979 to 1981, he was with Washington State University as Assistant Professor. Since 1981, he has been teaching at IIT, Madras. Dr.Jhunjhunwala leads the Telecommunications and Computer Networks group (TeNeT) at IIT Madras. This group is closely working with industry in the development of a number of Telecommunications and Computer Network Systems. TeNeT group has incubated a number of technology companies which work in partnership with TeNeT group to develop world class Telecom and Banking products for Rural Markets. Dr. Ashok Jhunjhunwala has been awarded Padma Shri in the year 2002. He has been awarded Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award in 1998, Dr.Vikram Sarabhai Research Award for the year 1997, Millennium Medal at Indian Science Congress in the year 2000 and H. K. Firodia for "Excellence in Science & Technology" for the year 2002, Shri Om Prakash Bhasin Foundation Award for Science & Technology for the year 2004, Awarded Jawaharlal Nehru Birth Centenary Lecture Award by INSA for the year 2006 and IBM Innovation and Leadership Forum Award by IBM for the year 2006. He is a Fellow of INAE, IAS, INSA and NAS. Dr. Jhunjhunwala is a Director in the Board of SBI. He is also a Board member of several companies in India, including TTML, BEL, Polaris, 3i Infotech, Sasken, Tejas, NRDC, and IDRBT. He is member of Prime Minister's Setup Scientific Advisory Committee

Håkan Eriksson was born in Mjölby Sweden 1961, where he also went to school up to grade 12, during the years 1968-1980.
After military service, 1980-1981, Mr. Eriksson entered Linköping University in Sweden where he received a MS degree in Electrical Engineering in 1985, after a one year scholarship at Stanford University, California, USA.
1985-1986 Håkan Eriksson stayed at the department of Electrical Engineering at Linköping University, studying channel coding, with respect to VLSI implementations.
In 1986 Mr. Eriksson was asked to join the research unit at Ericsson Radio Systems AB, Stockholm and during the years 1987-1990 his main activity was within the GSM standardization as technical expert and member of the Swedish delegation. Håkan Eriksson became manager, of the Radio Network Research section 1990 and in 1992 he got promoted to manager of the Systems Research and Development department responsible for future evolution of present digital cellular systems as well as next generation wideband systems, WCDMA.
After what had now become 9 years in the research area Mr. Eriksson moved to Ericsson Research Canada in Montreal in 1995 where he was offered the position as Director, Systems Design and Management, with overall system responsibility for Ericsson TDMA systems. In 1996, he was appointed General Manager, Systems Design and Management, Ericsson Research Canada, with some added responsibilities, mainly in the area of customer involvement.
Upon returning to Sweden in August 1997, Håkan Eriksson took the position as Vice President, Business and Technology Development, at the business unit Cellular Systems American Standards, with the mission to drive the technical development for the Business Unit, mainly the GSM/TDMA EDGE convergence.
In the autumn 1998, all research activities in Ericsson were organized into one unit named Ericsson Research. Mr. Eriksson was asked to lead this organization and in November 1998, he was appointed Vice President and General Manager, Ericsson Research, and in the summer 2000 also appointed Vice President, Research, Ericsson, with overall responsibilty for all research within the Ericsson Group.
Following a reorganization in the Spring of 2003, Håkan Eriksson was appointed Vice President & General Manager, Research & Development, responsible for all major development within the Ericsson Group, including the Radio Network, Core Network and Service Network as well as Ericsson Research.
Currently, Håkan Eriksson is Senior Vice President, Research & Development and Chief Technology Officer of the Ericsson Group, reporting to the CEO.

Hamid Aghvami joined the academic staff at King’s in 1984. In 1989 he was promoted to Reader, and in 1993 was promoted Professor in Telecommunications Engineering. He is presently the Director of the Centre for Telecommunications Research at King’s. Professor Aghvami carries out consulting work on Digital Radio Communications Systems for British and International companies; he has published over 500 technical papers and given invited talks and courses the world over on various aspects of Personal and Mobile Radio Communications. He was Visiting Professor at NTT Radio Communication Systems Laboratories in 1990, Senior Research Fellow at BT Laboratories in 1998-1999, and was an Executive Advisor to Wireless Facilities Inc., USA, in 1996-2002. He is Managing Director of Wireless Multimedia Communications Ltd., his own consultancy company. Professor Aghvami leads an active research team working on numerous mobile and personal communications projects for third and fourth generation systems; these projects are supported both by government and industry. He was a member of the Board of Governors of the IEEE Communications Society in 2001-2003, was a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Communications Society in 2004-2007, and has been member, Chairman, and Vice-Chairman of the technical programme and organising committees of a large number of international conferences. He is also founder of the International Symposium on Personal Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC), a major yearly conference attracting some 1,000 attendees. Professor Aghvami was awarded the IEEE Technical Committee on Personal Communications (TCPC) Recognition Award in 2005 for his outstanding technical contributions to the communications field, and for his service to the scientific and engineering communities. Professor Aghvami is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Fellow of the IET, Fellow of the IEEE, and in 2009 was awarded a Fellowship of the Wireless World Research Forum in recognition of his personal contributions to the wireless world, and for his research achievements as Director at the Centre for Telecommunications Research at King’s.

Ms. Li Mofang, Director of the Technical Consulting Committee of China Mobile Communications Corporation (China Mobile); Dean member of China Institute Of Communications Wireless and Mobile Communication Committee, ever served as GSM AP Chairman and won 2001 Gold Member awarded from GSM Association.
From 2000 to March 2006, served as Chief Engineer of China Mobile, responsible for overall technical issues, including preparation and establishment of Research Institute of China Mobile; focused on technical development roadmap research, such as 3G evolution, impact of other wireless technologies on mobile communication, impact of mobile data service on network and opening the middleware standard.
From 1995 to 2000, served as Chief Engineer of Mobile Communication Bureau, Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, in charge of GSM system networking project, mobile subscriber number extension and Y2000 projects.

Prof. Walker is a senior technical adviser for Vodafone Group. Until last year, he was Research and Development Director for the Vodafone Group of companies, with the responsibility for the Group’s research activities, intellectual property and technology standards worldwide. He also led technology innovation and manages engagement with start-up companies. Michael holds the Vodafone Chair in Telecommunications at Royal Holloway, University of London, as a part-time professor, is a visiting professor at the University of Surrey, and is Vice Chairman of Mobile VCE – a group of universities and industries researching mobile communications. He sits on scientific advisory boards for the Universities of Warwick and Surrey, the London Development Agency and the UK Government, and some start-up companies. He has held a number of positions with standards bodies, including chairmanship of the body responsible for the security aspects of UMTS. Before joining Vodafone, Michael was Head of Mathematics at Racal Research, and prior to that an academic at the University of Tuebingen in Germany. Michael is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and is currently the President of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications.

Kohei Satoh was born in Yamagata, Japan, and received B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from Yamagata University and a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Kyoto University. In 1975, he joined the Electrical Communication Laboratories, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation (NTT), Japan, and in 1992, he transferred to NTT Mobile Communications Network, Inc. (NTT DoCoMo). Since 1975, he has been engaged in the research on radio propagation for satellite communication systems, research and development of mobile satellite communications and mobile communications systems. He has also engaged in standardization activities of mobile satellite services and IMT-2000/ FPLMTS in ITU-R. He was a Executive Director of the Global Business Department, NTT DoCoMo, and his job was to promote standardization activities and international alliance for IMT-2000. Dr.Satoh was responsible in 1999 & 2000 working with number of other operators that allowed ITU to set up 3G standards when ITU was deadlocked. He was then made President of NTT DoCoMo Research Labs in Europe in 2001. Since then he became Managing Director of ARIB. He is very involved in promoting 4G standards and works with the Future Forum. He was promoter for more spectrum for IMT Advanced at WRC 2003 & 2007. Dr.Satoh is highly regarded in Asia Pacific community and is Vice Chairman of Asia Wireless Forum.

Prof. Sureswaran is Director of the National Advanced IPv6 Centre of Excellence (NAV6) at Universiti Sains Malaysia. Dr. Sureswaran obtained his BsEE/CE (Magna Cum Laude) and Masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Miami and his PhD from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in 2000 while serving as a full time faculty in the School of Computer Sciences. Dr. Sureswaran’s recent achievements include being appointed as a National Academic Leader for Innovation and Commercialization by the Malaysian Minister of Higher Education. He was also awarded the Malaysian Innovation Award by the Prime Minister in 2007 and again in 2009. Dr. Sureswaran is also the founder and headed the team that successfully took Mlabs Systems Berhad, a high technology video conferencing company to a successful listing on the Malaysian Stock Exchange in 2005. Mlabs is the first, and so far, only university based company to be listed in Malaysia. Dr. Sureswaran also worked for MODCOMP, Florida, a company focused on the research, development and deployment of real-time operating systems. Customers included Jet Propulsion Labs (JPL) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) for their remote space vehicles. He later joined ICON Business Systems, Inc (Florida) as Senior Consultant in 1991. later being responsible for their entire engineering and R&D divisions. In 1992, he returned to Malaysia to join USM as a lecturer. Dr. Sureswaran is currently one of the four steering committee members and the IPv6 Domain Head for MYREN (Malaysian Research and Education Network). He is also currently the Chairman of the Asia Pacific IPv6 Task Force (APV6TF). Dr. Sureswaran’s is also a Primary Member of APAN as well as the Head of APAN Malaysia (Asia Pacific Advanced Networks).

He has over 25 years of research experience in the field of digital communications. He has authored and co-authored more than 300 research publications and is co-inventor on 15 granted patents. He has also edited two books on “ Technologies for the Wireless Future in 2006 published by Wiley’s. ”, Vol.1 in 2004 and Vol.2 In Europe he leads the Net!Works EU Technology Platform Expert Group and has been principle author of the Future Mobile Networks Vision and Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) for Beyond 2020. He has shown distinguished powers of research leadership to sustain and build one of the strongest and largest groups in Europe with more than 160 researchers. Prof. Tafazolli has and is serving on many scientific advisory boards of international companies and research organisations. In the last two years, he initiated in Europe three strategically important areas of research, namely; “Green and energy efficient wireless networking”, “Internet of Things” (IoT) and “Future Internet. In addition to the above recent research contributions and impacts, he is also known to be the first who pioneered combination of adhoc and cellular networking, currently known as multihop cellular communications. His work on the areas of self-organising networks and Software Defined Radio (now commonly referred to as cognitive radio) have already found their way into standards. He is also the founder of International Workshop on “Green Wireless”.

Dr. Theodore(Tod) Sizer is leader of the Access Technology Research Domain in Bell Laboratories. In this role he leads teams in six worldwide locations innovating in all aspects of access systems and technology both wireless, copper, and optical with special opportunities being explored at the convergence between these.
Recently he has had significant impact as a key proponent and inventor of the lightRadio™ technology and systems leading to Alcatel-Lucent’s product line solution to address the current Wireless Data explosion.
For two years beginning in December 2008 he relocated on International Assignment to Bell Labs Stuttgart to assume the director position for Wireless Physical Layer Research. Prior to his relocation, he was director of the Converged Access Systems Research Department of Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, NJ. His department performed research in High Speed Wireless Systems, next generation PON and DSL systems, and design of next generation Cellular Base Stations.
During his tenure at Bell Labs he has performed research in Wired and Wireless Home Networking, Fixed Wireless Loop systems, Video Watermarking technologies, Optical Computing and Switching Systems, and High Power Laser Design. He was a member of the technical team in Lucent’s role as a promoter in the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG). His responsibilities in the SIG included being Chair of the Coexistence Working Group.
Tod graduated from Amherst College, Magna Cum Laude and received his Masters and Doctorate from the Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester. In 2007 Tod was named a Bell Labs Fellow “For sustained creative contributions to wireless systems, particularly in the convergence of packet and wireless technologies”. He is the author of 43 patents, 16 patents pending and over 50 refereed publications and is a member of the IEEE and OSA.

A Principal Researcher at the Nokia Research Center Finland in the area of Radio Access. He obtained a M.Sc. (Eng) and Dr.Tech. from Helsinki University of Technology in 1993 and 1997 and a B.Sc. (Economics) from Helsinki School of Economics in 2003. Currently both these universities have been merged as the Aalto University. Before his current role, Mikko was Head of International Cooperation at Nokia Research.
In 2001 Mikko was project manager of Wireless Strategic Initiative that gave birth to the WWRF, a new type of successful cooperation between and within industry and academia in the area of identifying research topics and cooperation in wireless communications. Mikko was elected as chair of WWRF for the years 2004-2006. Mikko is also a founding member of the CELTIC EUREKA initiative. Mikko is a Senior Member of IEEE. Gerhard Fettweis earned his Ph.D. under H. Meyr's supervision from RWTH Aachen in 1990. After one year at IBM Research in San Jose, CA he moved to TCSI Inc., Berkeley, CA. Since 1994 he is Vodafone Chair Professor at TU Dresden, Germany, with currently 20 companies from Asia/Europe/US sponsoring his research on wireless transmission and chip design. He coordinates 2 DFG centers at TU Dresden, cfAED and HAEC. Gerhard is IEEE Fellow, member of acatech, has an honorary doctorate from TU Tampere, and has received multiple awards. In Dresden he has spun-out ten startups, and setup funded projects of more than EUR 1/3 billion volume. He has helped organizing IEEE conferences, most notably as TPC Chair of IEEE ICC 2009, IEEE TTM 2012, and General Chair of VTC Spring 2013. He remains active within IEEE.

Bob Simmonds is a seasoned Canadian telecommunications executive. He was the Founder and Chairman of Clearnet Communications which pioneered 800 MHz SMR service in Canada, and launched of two state-of-the-art digital wireless networks, a national ESMR network in 1996 and Canada’s first national CDMA PCS network in 1997. In 2000, Clearnet was acquired by TELUS Corporation for $6.6 billion (CDN) in the largest telecommunications deal in Canadian history.
Bob continued to work for TELUS Mobility as its Executive Vice President, Regulatory and retired in 2006. Bob is widely regarded as one of Canada’s leading wireless communications engineers and a mobile spectrum authority, having played a key role in the development of Canada’s mobile spectrum policies, frequency bandplans and certification equipment standards for more than 30 years.
Bob continues to serve as Chairman of Lenbrook Corporation, a distributor of electronics components and radio products and owner of the NAD and PSB brands of audio/video products. He is also a director of BCE/Bell Canada, Canada’s largest telecommunications and broadcasting enterprise as well as 6Harmonics, an early stage Ottawa wireless startup working on cognitive radio and dynamic spectrum access techniques.
Bob continues to Chair the Mobile and Personal Communications Committee of the Radio Advisory Board of Canada (RABC), the body that provides unbiased and technically expert advice to the federal Department of Industry, and is a past Chair of the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Assocation (CWTA). A laureate and member of Canada’s Telecommunications Hall of Fame, Mr. Simmonds earned his B.A. Sc. in Electrical Engineering at the University of Toronto.

David Falconer received the B.A. Sc. degree in Engineering Physics from the University of Toronto in 1962, the S.M. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from M.I.T. in 1963 and 1967 respectively, and an honorary doctorate of science from the University of Edinburgh in 2009. After a year as a postdoctoral fellow at the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden he was with Bell Laboratories from 1967 to 1980 as a member of technical staff and group supervisor. During 1976-77 he was a visiting professor at Linköping University, Linköping, Sweden. Since 1980 he has been with Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada, where he is now Professor Emeritus in the Department of Systems and Computer Engineering.
His recent research interests centered around beyond-third-generation broadband wireless communications systems. He was Director of Carleton’s Broadband Communications and Wireless Systems (BCWS) Centre from 2000 to 2004. He was the Chair of Working Group 4 (New Radio Interfaces, Relay-Based Systems and Smart Antennas) of the Wireless World Research Forum (WWRF) in 2004 and 2005. He received the 2008 Canadian Award for Telecommunications Research, a 2008 IEEE Technical Committee for Wireless Communications Recognition Award, the IEEE Canada 2009 Fessenden Award (Telecommunications), and the IEEE Communications Society Award for Public Service in the Field of Telecommunications. He is an IEEE Life Fellow.
Recently he has had significant impact as a key proponent and inventor of the lightRadio™ technology and systems leading to Alcatel-Lucent’s product line solution to address the current Wireless Data explosion.
For two years beginning in December 2008 he relocated on International Assignment to Bell Labs Stuttgart to assume the director position for Wireless Physical Layer Research. Prior to his relocation, he was director of the Converged Access Systems Research Department of Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, NJ. His department performed research in High Speed Wireless Systems, next generation PON and DSL systems, and design of next generation Cellular Base Stations.
During his tenure at Bell Labs he has performed research in Wired and Wireless Home Networking, Fixed Wireless Loop systems, Video Watermarking technologies, Optical Computing and Switching Systems, and High Power Laser Design. He was a member of the technical team in Lucent’s role as a promoter in the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG). His responsibilities in the SIG included being Chair of the Coexistence Working Group.
Tod graduated from Amherst College, Magna Cum Laude and received his Masters and Doctorate from the Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester. In 2007 Tod was named a Bell Labs Fellow “For sustained creative contributions to wireless systems, particularly in the convergence of packet and wireless technologies”. He is the author of 43 patents, 16 patents pending and over 50 refereed publications and is a member of the IEEE and OSA.

Ramjee Prasad is currently the Director of the Center for TeleInfrastruktur (CTIF) at Aalborg University, Denmark and Professor, Wireless Information Multimedia Communication Chair. Ramjee Prasad is the Founding Chairman of the Global ICT Standardisation Forum for India (GISFI: www.gisfi.org) established in 2009. GISFI has the purpose of increasing of the collaboration between European, Indian, Japanese, North-American and other worldwide standardization activities in the area of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and related application areas. He was the Founding Chairman of the HERMES Partnership – a network of leading independent European research centres established in 1997, of which he is now the Honorary Chair. He is the founding editor-in-chief of the Springer International Journal on Wireless Personal Communications. He is a member of the editorial board of other renowned international journals including those of River Publishers. Dr. Fiona Williams is a Research Director of Ericsson, based in Aachen, Germany, driving innovations in 5G based ICT solutions and their use in sectors such as energy.
As initiator and leader of large-scale collaborative programmes and projects in the national and European context she has built up research, innovation and IPR activities for Ericsson, bringing results through to business innovation as solutions, products and as spin-off companies.
As the current coordinator of the H2020 projects SUCCESS and RE-SERVE, she is bringing 5G-based ICT to bear on the challenges of implementing Secure and resilient Smart Energy infrastructures.
She holds board positions in industrial and academic organizations. She built up the research and innovation unit in Ericsson Eurolab, after moving to Germany in 1991 from Ireland, where she set up and managed an Ericsson-Eircom joint venture company. She studied for her B.Sc. (Hons.) and Ph.D. degrees at the National University of Ireland and as a visiting fellow at Imperial College, London.

Colin Langtry is the Chief of the Radiocommunication Study Groups Department in the International Telecommunication Union. The ITU-R Study Groups develop global standards for radiocommunication systems and conduct studies to support the international framework for management of the radio frequency spectrum. Mr. Langtry’s recent experience involved working as the Counsellor for ITU-R Study Groups 5 and 8 supporting their studies on amateur, fixed, mobile and radiodetermination services. This activity included his role as Counsellor in the development of the ITU's International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) systems standards for mobile broadband wireless access. Prior to that he was responsible for the Text Editing and Publications Division of the ITU Radiocommunication Bureau and, before joining the ITU, managing spectrum planning activities in the Australian spectrum management agency.

Bernard Barani graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications de Bretagne in 1982. He then worked as communications engineer in industry on military infrared systems and then with the European Space Agency on advanced satcom programmes. In 1994, he joined the European Commission and was responsible for implementation of research and policy issues in wireless communication, Internet, audio visual systems, Software and Services. He has been Deputy head of unit for research and policy in the field of Internet of Things systems. He is currently Acting head of unit in charge of research and innovation on Network Technologies in the CONNECT Directorate General of the European Commission. He is responsible for the definition and implementation of the research strategy related to future networks under the 5G Public Private Partnership and to systems based on connected objects (IoT) in support of EU industry competitiveness. Werner Mohr was graduated from the University of Hannover, Germany, with the Master Degree in electrical engineering in 1981 and with the Ph.D. degree in 1987. Dr. Werner Mohr joined Siemens AG, Mobile Network Division in Munich, Germany in 1991. He was involved in several EU funded projects and ETSI standardization groups on UMTS and systems beyond 3G. Werner Mohr coordinated several EU and Eureka Celtic funded projects on 3G (FRAMES project), LTE and IMT-Advanced radio interface (WINNER I, II and WINNER+ projects), which developed the basic concepts for future radio standards. Since April 2007 he is with Nokia Solutions and Networks (now Nokia) in Munich Germany, where he is Head of Research Alliances. In addition, he was chairperson of the NetWorld2020 European Technology Platform until December 2016. Werner Mohr was Chair of the Board of the 5G Infrastructure Association in 5G PPP of the EU Commission from its launch until December 2016. He was chair of the "Wireless World Research Forum – WWRF" from its launch in August 2001 up to December 2003. He was member of the board of ITG in VDE from 2006 to 2014. He is co-author of a book on "Third Generation Mobile Communication Systems" a book on "Radio Technologies and Concepts for IMT-Advanced" and a book “Mobile and Wireless Communications for IMT-Advanced and Beyond”. In December 2016 Werner Mohr received the IEEE Communications Society Award for Public Service in the Field of Telecommunications and in November 2018 he received the VDE ITG Fellowship 2018.

Adrian Scrase played a central role in the creation of the “3rd Generation Partnership Project” (3GPP) and is responsible for the operations of the 3GPP Project CoGroup. He heads 3GPPs’ Mobile Competence Ce ordination ntre (MCC) which is an International team of 20 experts who provide comprehensive support to the Project. He was also principally involved in the formation of the “oneM2M” Partnership Project and oversees ETSI’s support to that initiative. He is CTO wi thin ETSI with operational responsibility for all of ETSI’s standards production activities. He has more than 40 years experience in the telecommunications field, which includes 34 years of experience in standardization.

Professor Alouini is a Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Affiliate Professor of Applied Mathematics and Computational Science (AMCS), Affiliate Professor of Statistics (STAT), and Principal Investigator of the Communication Theory Lab (CTL) of the King Abdullah University of Sciences and Technology (KAUST), Thuwal, Makkah Province, Saudi Arabia. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Pasadena, California, United States of America, in 1998. His general research interests include design and performance analysis of diversity combining techniques, MIMO techniques, multi-hop/cooperative communications systems, optical wireless communication systems, cognitive radio systems, green communication systems and networks, and integrated ground-airborne-space networks. He is currently actively working on addressing the uneven global distribution, access to, and use of information and communication technologies by studying and developing new generations of aerial and space networks as a solution to provide connectivity to far-flung, less-populated and hard-to-reach areas. He has been a long-time supporter of WWRF and we are very pleased that he will be joining us at our 48th meeting in Abu Dhabi on 9th November to give his Fellow’s address.
